
With over 14,380 lakes, it's no surprise ice sports have become quite a tradition around Minnesota. Ice skating is a fun way to exercise during the wintertime. Whether you play hockey, figure skate, or simply like to skate around, there are so many great rinks around the Twin Cities. Many of them are outdoors too, so it's easy to get some fresh air. Here are five of our favorite local places to skate.
- Parade Ice Garden - 600 Kenwood Pkwy., Minneapolis, MN 55403
With three full indoor rinks, a locker room, spectator seating, skate rentals, and a concession stand, Parade Ice Garden is easily one of the best skating spots in Minneapolis. Open skating takes place most weekday afternoons, but the rink also hosts adult open hockey and figure skating pro ice as well. There are often many events to watch on the weekends. You'll have a ton of fun at Parade Ice Garden, and it's just a short drive from some beautiful Minneapolis homes for sale.
- West St. Paul Ice Arena - 60 Emerson Ave. W, West St. Paul, MN 55118
The West St. Paul Ice Arena is a great place to skate, but it's also a fun place to catch a local hockey game. Admission for public skating is only $3 per person and sessions are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30 am to 1 pm or Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am to 11 am. - Central Park Ice Skate Loop - 12000 Central Park Way, Maple Grove, MN 55369
If you'd prefer to skate outdoors, the Central Park Ice Skate Loop in Maple Grove is a ton of fun! The loop is 810 feet long and 20 feet wide and regularly treated with a Zamboni. There's also a warming house and concession stand onsite. The loop is open daily from 10 am to 9:30 pm. and there are plenty of great Maple Grove homes for sale nearby if you like the area.
- TRIA Rink - 400 Wabasha St. N, St Paul, MN 55101
This beautiful ice rink facility not only hosts weekday afternoon open skate sessions, but it's also the official practice center of the Minnesota Wild. Skate on the same ice as the pros for just $5. Skate rentals are available for another $5. TRIA Rink also hosts hockey camps, local sporting events, and skate lessons. The arena is located in the Saint Paul Treasure Island Center, so there's plenty to do nearby.
- Bryant Square Park Ice Skating Rink - 3125 Bryant Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55408
Bryant Square Park is home to one of the most popular outdoor rinks in Minneapolis. Located in the middle of the Uptown neighborhood, the rink is a great place to bring the kids. There is a warming room attached to the rink and plenty of great restaurants nearby.
