More than 70 years ago, founders Lois and Henry Harich operated Highland Nursery with a cigar-box cash register because they were so strapped for funds. The roots of Tonkadale Greenhouse literally extend to 1947, when founder Robert Anderson began selling his specialty African violets right down the street from Minnetonka homes for sale. Fast-forward to 1978, when the shop was purchased by Bill and Shirley Maruska, who greatly expanded the facility and product offerings. Current owner Jessie Jacobson, granddaughter of Bill and Shirley, developed a love of gardening after a childhood spent in the greenhouse. Jessie has also added an emphasis on staff training, believing that elite customer service is key to any successful business.
