Summer's Best Swimming Locations in the Twin Cities | Counselor Realty

We all look forward to summertime in the Twin Cities. This is the season when Minneapolis and St. Paul come alive, and we're here to enjoy every minute!

If you're looking for a place to cool off on a hot summer day in the Twin Cities, then you're in luck. Both Minneapolis and St. Paul offer some outstanding public beaches within the city limits, so you'll have no trouble finding a place to spread your blanket on the sand.

  • Wirth Lake Beach - 3200 Glenwood Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55405
Entirely surrounded by public parkland, 40-acre Wirth Lake is a popular recreation lake within minutes of many Minneapolis homes for sale. In addition to fishing and paddling, the lake has an excellent public beach open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the summer months. The Wirth Lake Beach features a lovely strip of sand with lifeguards, a floating swim dock and nearby restrooms, drinking fountains, picnic areas, and sand volleyball courts. It's a perfect place to spend a summer day in Minneapolis with kids!

  • Fort Snelling State Park Beach - Snelling Lake Trail, St. Paul, MN 55111
One of several state parks in and around the Twin Cities, Fort Snelling State Park is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, from hiking and biking to fishing and swimming. One of the best features of this 2,931-acre park is a sandy beach that extends along the eastern shoreline of Snelling Lake. It's a beautiful, family-friendly spot, with lifeguards on duty between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Beach facilities, including restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, are footsteps from the water, and the beach at Fort Snelling State Park is just a short drive from these St. Paul homes for sale

  • Lake Nokomis Beach - 4955 W. Lake Nokomis Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55417
Located at the northern end of Lake Nokomis, the Lake Nokomis Main Beach is a beautiful spot for a swim in Minneapolis. Part of Lake Nokomis Park, the beach is adjacent to park facilities, including a concessions stand, bike and boat rentals, picnic areas, and a fishing pier. Lifeguards are posted at the Main Beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Lake Nokomis Park also has a second beach, located on 52nd Street, which is unguarded.

  • Phalen Beach - 1400 Phalen Drive, St. Paul, MN 55106
Another perfect summer spot for families with kids in St. Paul, the Phalen Regional Park Beach is a picturesque stretch of sand on the shore of 198-acre Lake Phalen. This free public beach has lifeguards on duty from noon to 8 p.m. and a splash pad open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the summer season.

  • Bde Maka Ska 32nd Street Beach - 3200 E. Calhoun Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55408
The largest lake in Minneapolis is 400-acre Bde Maka Ska, which gets its name from a Dakota phrase meaning "Lake White Earth." The lake is an unsurprisingly popular summer recreation spot for Minneapolis residents, offering multiple beaches, water sports facilities, and walking paths that encircle the entire lakeshore. The Bde Maka Ska 32nd Street Beach is a great place to begin enjoying this charming lake. Located on the lake's east side, the beach is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. No lifeguards are posted here, but there are lifeguards at Thomas Beach, on the lake's southern end.
