Calling all pizza lovers! The second week in January is an exciting time you won't want to miss. It's National Pizza Week! In celebration, we urge you to visit a local pizza shop in the Twin Cities area. Many of the best pizza shops put a unique twist on their pies. Here are a few top spots we think you'll love.
- Pizzeria Lola: 5557 Xerxes Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55410
Pizzeria Lola is a great place to stop for a pie after a long day of looking at Minneapolis homes for sale. The owner is from Korea, so several of their pies are inspired by elements of Korean cuisine. The Korean BBQ pizza is a true fan favorite. It's topped with beef short ribs, mozzarella, scallions, arugula, and a soy-chili vinaigrette.
Another favorite at Pizzeria Lola is the Tavern Pie. It's topped with house red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, jalapeno, and one unique ingredient: honey. If you're in the mood for a cocktail, Pizzeria Lola has a good selection, including classic drinks like the Old Fashioned and Negroni.
- Young Joni: 165 13th Ave. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
Young Joni creates a lot of unique, wood-fired pizzas that are inspired by different regions. The Amalfi Coast pizza is topped with red sauce, garlic, kalamata olives, onion, basil, and Calabrian chilis. If you enjoy chorizo, you'll probably love the Basque pizza with chorizo, goat cheese, piquillo peppers, and preserved lemons. The Perfect Pickle Pie is another unusual creation and a favorite of pickle lovers.
In addition to pizza, Young Joni has some delicious desserts. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is sweet and caramelly, and you can't go wrong with the Soft Serve Sundae.
- Red Wagon Pizza: 5461 Penn Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55419
Red Wagon Pizza has been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, and they've also received several local awards for their food. They make incredible, wood-fired pizza with just the right amount of char.
If you're in the mood for something different, try the Birria pizza, topped with barbacoa braised beef. Red Wagon also makes a few delicious vegan pizzas. Their Capo Capon vegan pizza comes topped with caponata sauce, giardiniera, pine nuts, and parsley.
- Pizza Luce: 1183 Selby Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104
If you're looking at St. Paul homes for sale, then Pizza Luce is just minutes away. They are known for their innovative pies, and they have a lot of vegan and gluten-free options.
You really can't go wrong with the Baked Potato Pizza at Pizza Luce. It has a buttery crust topped with smashed garlic potatoes, cheddar cheese, bacon, tomatoes, and broccoli. They also make a vegetarian version with vegan bacon. Finish your meal with a slice of carrot cake, and you'll be smiling all night.
- Eat Street Crossing Ouro Pizzaria: 2819 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55408
Eat Street Crossing Ouro Pizzaria is a Brazilian restaurant that puts their own twist on pizza. They do have a classic Margherita pizza, and it's incredible. But where they really shine is with their specialty pies.
One favorite at Eat Street Crossing is the Shrimp Portuguesa pizza. It's topped with shrimp, hearts of palm, chopped eggs, onion, and a pico de gallo vinaigrette. If you prefer a vegan pie, try the Paulista. It's topped with mashed potatoes, vegan cheese, corn, pico de gallo, and shoestring potato chips.
