Twin Cities Guide to Outdoor Winter Fun in 2024 | Counselor Realty

Winter is an exciting time around the Twin Cities, with beautiful, snow-covered scenery and plenty of fun events to look forward to throughout the season. Whether you're searching near Minneapolis homes for sale or St. Paul homes for sale, there's sure to be a winter event with your name on it. So let's take a closer look at four outdoor winter events you can look forward to around the Twin Cities this year.

  • St. Paul Winter Carnival – Downtown St. Paul, MN 55102
The St. Paul Winter Carnival is a massive outdoor event with many exciting activities around downtown St. Paul and at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The scavenger hunts are always a highlight of the Winter Carnival, with four different hunts that take you to interesting locations around the city. Vulcan Snow Park is another popular destination during the event, with some very cool snow sculptures and plenty of fun in the snow for all ages. This is a very family-friendly event, with a Kids and Family Day that the youngest members of your family are sure to love. The next St. Paul Winter Carnival is scheduled for January 25-February 3, 2024, with many free or low-cost events to attend.

  • Wayzata Chilly Open – 294 Grove Lane E, Wayzata, MN 55391
The Wayzata Chilly Open is a uniquely Minnesotan event held annually on the frozen Wayzata Bay, around the corner from Wayzata homes for sale. The main event is technically a golf tournament, but this is a different type of golf than you've ever played before, with four 9-hole courses carved into the ice and snow of Wayzata Bay. The event also features plenty of fun extras, like snow yoga, snow kiting, a chili cookoff, and, of course, a great pre-party to kick off the excitement. You can look forward to enjoying it all February 9-10, 2024.

  • U.S. Pond Hockey Championships – 4955 W. Lake Nokomis Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55417
The U.S. Pond Hockey Championships take place on Lake Nokomis every year, with 23 pond hockey rinks carved into the ice and buzzing with action every day. For spectators, the highlight is often the Open Division of the tournament, with teams that frequently include hockey legends from high school, college, and the NHL. Whether you're interested in watching, competing against former NHLers, or jumping into another division with more casual hockey players, there's something here for you. The ice will be packed with players nearly every day from January 18-29, 2024.

  • Art Shanty Projects On-Ice Program – 4135 W. Lake Harriet Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55410
The Art Shanty Projects On-Ice Program has certainly become a Twin Cities tradition and is now entering its 20th year as a showcase of the incredible talent of local artists. For nearly a month, Lake Harriet becomes a hub of artistic activity, with artists creating unique shanties that each tell fascinating stories. It's the sort of thing that, once you see it, you get it. It's a very fun and different sort of art exhibition. Plenty of live entertainment is also scheduled, with performers to be announced near the start of the event. Look forward to it all January 20-February 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
