Co-Op Farm Tour - Twin Cities, MN - Counselor Realty

The co-op farms of the Twin Cities provide a vital service to the region, starting with the fresh, delicious produce that they supply to residents and restaurants alike. On July 16, 2022, many local farms will be hosting a Co-op Farm Tour, with fun, educational activities for the whole family to enjoy. Even if you can't make it out for the official tour, many farms offer activities for the public throughout the summer. Here are the details on Twin Cities co-op farms for you to tour this summer.

  • JD Rivers' Children's Garden – 2900 Glenwood Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55405
If you want to get your kids involved with farming at a location close to Minneapolis homes for sale, it's tough to top the experience at the JD Rivers' Children's Garden. In addition to activities during the Co-op Farm Tour, this farm offers youth farming programs throughout the summer, including weekly programs and week-long camps. While you're there, be sure to stop by the on-site Produce Market to pick up fresh, delicious produce throughout the summer and fall.

  • Urban Roots – 1110 Payne Ave., St. Paul, MN 55130
Like the previous entry on our list, Urban Roots is a youth-focused co-op farm where kids can learn to manage gardens and crops through fun, educational programs. Participants at this co-op grow and harvest more than 15,000 pounds of produce every year at urban farms near St. Paul homes for sale while learning entrepreneurial skills related to farming. That includes learning about marketing and sales for farmers markets, in addition to the maintenance of crops.

  • Frogtown Farm – 946 Minnehaha Ave. W., St. Paul, MN 55104
Founded through a community initiative to develop 13 acres of urban farmland in the Frogtown neighborhood, Frogtown Farm has since grown into an essential part of the community. The permaculture approach to farming used at Frogtown Farm allows for a regenerative system of sustainable farming that keeps soil healthy rather than degrading it. As a demonstration farm, Frogtown Farm aims to share the benefits of this approach with other farmers and residents throughout the Twin Cities region.

  • Growing Lots Urban Farm – 1915 E. 22nd St. #5, Minneapolis, MN 55404
A small, one-acre market farm located in South Minneapolis, Growing Lots Urban Farm has transformed two pieces of land that were once parking lots into sustainable, environmentally friendly farming plots. The small team at Growing Lots Urban Farm operates weekly farm stands every Wednesday evening, where you can take a self-guided tour and pick up fresh produce from the farm.

See Farms Beyond the Twin Cities

If you're interested in seeing even more co-op farms and don't mind a bit of traveling, this summer's Co-op Farm Tour will take you to a wide variety of farms outside of the Twin Cities. From lush orchards to bee/honey farms, this self-guided tour will take you on a journey to co-ops in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Each farm will have its own unique schedule of events on the day of the Co-op Farm Tour and most feature events all summer long if you can't make it out on the big day. There's no registration fee or tickets required—just a fun day of exploring co-op farms at your own pace.
