Fall Curb Appeal - Counselor Realty

First impressions can make or break your chances of selling your home this fall.  Fall is an excellent time to give the outside of your home a makeover.  Our Minnesota REALTORS® have years of experience helping homeowners just like you prepare their homes for the local real estate market.  Here are six secrets from our local real estate pros to prepare your property for the selling season ahead:

  1. Plant Fall Flowers
Fall flowers are the perfect way to bring beauty to your lawn while adding color to your yard.  Trade those hydrangeas, marigolds, and petunias for a more suitable cool weather option like mums, asters, or even red spider lily. For an additional splash of color, consider planting flowers in hanging baskets to display on your porch and bring in more of that fall-weather feel.

  2. Don't Forget Your Lawn
Even with cooler weather on the horizon, don't forget to maintain your lawn.  Rake up the leaves regularly and pay attention to any brown spots that might need treatment.

  3. Spruce Up the Outside of Your Home
In addition to tending to your yard, pay attention to the details outside of your home that could detract from your home's curb appeal.

    • Pressure Wash
Dirt can build up on the side of your home, making it look dingy.  Consider giving it a pressure wash to freshen up the color and making your home look like new.

    • Clean the Windows

Clean the windows inside and out.  Dirt and cobwebs can build up on your windows, making it look more haunted that you intended as fall approaches.

    • Fresh Coat of Paint

If it's been several years since the last time your home was painted, now might be the perfect time to make an upgrade.  If your home's paint job has become chipped or faded, a new paint job can go a long way to freshen up its appearance and make potential buyers happy.

  4. Clean Out the Gutters
Throughout the autumn season and as leaves begin to fall, your gutters can become clogged with leaves and other debris.  This can not only cause drainage issues for your home, but it can also make your exterior look untidy.  Keep the gutters clean and neat so that your home is presented in the best light to potential buyers.

  5. Give Your Front Door Some Charm
Your front door will be one of the first things your buyers see when they visit your home.  Consider adding a fall wreath or repainting the door a bright fall color to give it more appeal.

  6. Don't Forget the Lighting
Autumn means that the days become shorter and it begins to get darker earlier in the day.  Consider adding pathway lights and decorative lighting to help brighten up the walkway and increase the aesthetics of your home.  Your potential buyers will also appreciate the safe, well-lit entryway into your home.

Cooler weather does not mean you have to neglect your home's curb appeal. These tips will help you to attract potential buyers to your home throughout the fall season.
