Murray's Steakhouse - A Minneapolis Hot Spot Since 1946
Murray's Steakhouse, located at 26 South 6th Street, is one of the oldest restaurants in the Twin Cities and is known for delivering a classic steakhouse experience you'll never forget. While Murray's underwent a renovation in 1984, a facelift in 2006, and a renovation in 2012, what remains the same is the Murray family's dedication to delivering the highest quality food and service to their customers.
Opened in 1946 by husband and wife team, Art and Marie Murray, Murray's is still in the family going strong using many of the same recipes today as they did over 70 years ago. Murray's famous garlic toast was developed by Marie and her cousin, Alois Schirle, who moved to the United States from Germany to be the restaurant's master baker. Alois' recipes for pretzels and pies are still used today in the restaurant's on-site bakery.
When food critic Maurice Dreicer awarded Murray's the Silver Butter Knife Steak award for serving "an exceptional piece of meat" in 1951, a star was born.
Murray's Steakhouse quickly became famous as the home of the Silver Butter Knife Steak--described as "a 28-ounce, hand-cut sirloin so tender, it needs no actual knife once it gets to the table." While the Silver Butter Knife Steak is what made them famous, Murray's devotees tell us you won't regret ordering a porterhouse steak, chateaubriand, or Murray's original sandwich made with sirloin, provolone cheese, and bacon.
Murray's Location On 6th Street In Minneapolis
Built in 1880, the building that houses Murray's Steakhouse is one of the oldest in Downtown Minneapolis. Before being the home of Murray's, the Hankow Café, Winter Garden Ballroom, and Delaney's bar also called the location home. It's easy to find Murray's Steakhouse between Hennepin and Nicollet in Downtown Minneapolis. And, if all else fails, look for Murray's neon sign right out front where it has always been.
